Exploring HTL pathways in carbohydrate–protein mixture: a study on glucose–glycine interaction

Abstract The hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of biomass is a strategic process to convert wet and waste feedstocks into liquid biofuel. In this work, we investigated the glucose glycine, alone together, mimic composition low-lipid content biomass. Experimental tests were performed in batch setup temperature range 200–350 °C. As feeding changed, distribution among different phases (gas, solid, biocrude, aqueous phase) their compositions evaluated through analytical techniques (GC–MS, µ-GC, HPLC). Glucose–glycine showed strongly interactions with reaction temperature: increased biocrude production at high solid low temperature, following proportionally inverse trend. Biocrude, as well all other phases, was observed be completely according feedstock used. To study how formation mutual affected by starting feedstock, consecutive reactions generated innovatively carried out. phase from glucose–glycine interaction temperatures experimentally mostly converted temperatures. Furthermore, no phenomena between glucose–glycine, while co-presence molecules seemed cause for lowest yield results obtained work can provide new insights understanding biomass, pointing out synergetic both biomolecules resulting phases.
